For another consecutive year, Horry County Schools students outperformed state averages on key academic benchmarks. According to results recently released by the South Carolina Department of Education, Horry County Schools students surpassed their peers statewide on three major measures during the past school year.

This past school year, HCS students read 68 million pages, and they're still going strong. They've already logged around 900 thousand pages this summer, and there's plenty of summer left. Don't forget to participate in our Summer Reading Challenge and log your pages in Beanstack ASAP!

After three students from Ten Oaks Middle won first place at the state-level National History Day competition for their group project, they took their performance, titled “The Lowell Mill Girls: Threads of Revolution,” to the University of Maryland for the national competition. There, they won the Outstanding Entry from South Carolina Award. Congratulations, Manuella Bastos, Ella Martire, and Kalli Peslis!

A total of 30 projects submitted by 56 students have ranked in the top three in their categories.
